The studio over at Splendy Interactive and Wales Interactive wanted to try a different kind of interactive experience. Instead of going the standard CGI or motion capture hybrid route for their video game, they just did a straight up live-action deal in their newly released title The Bunker. In a Fallout-like vault type of nuclear shelter, John lived a life of mundane routine as the last survivor. But a strange alarm goes off, and on the path to take care of it John has to face the long forgotten sections of this complex.
The cast members of this performance come from all over. You got Adam Brown in the starring role (one of the dwarves from The Hobbit movies), Sarah Greene from Penny Dreadful, and Grahame Fox (Game of Thrones). It was shot on-site in an actual old nuclear bunker, and the creepy story that unfolds has hidden collectibles which help paint a clearer picture. But of course this piece will have to rely heavily on the plot. Having writers from The Witcher and SOMA could certainly see to that, no doubt.
“Using live action means you can capture that genuine emotion which great actors give you, drawing you into the story even more. Adam Brown gives an incredible performance and we hope gamers really connect with his character John and the lonely, dangerous world he lives in,” said Director of The Bunker, Allan Plenderleith. “It was a genuine challenge to make a psychological horror game in a real location with real actors, but we’re really excited to bring audiences into this world and hope they really get lost in the story of The Bunker.”
You can pick up The Bunker on PC and PS4 today, and Xbox One players can jump into the experience starting on September 23rd. To learn more about how this project was made, explore their website, Twitter, and Facebook.
