The greatest of video game heroes we’ve come to know tend to wield the classic sword and shield, or pack some heat with a gun. But in the upcoming Lichtspeer game from indie studio Lichthund, the mighty weapon is a spear. See how that plays out in the game’s reveal trailer.
As you can see by the flashy video, Lichtspeer is set in a futuristic world that has roots in the ancient history of Germanic lore, but obviously with Nordic mythology, sci-fi/space-age fiction, and retro style 80s arcade feels on top of that. Your character must engage in combat for the entertainment of the Lichtgods, using your lightspear to fight through waves of enemies. The gameplay is focused entirely around using this weapon, taking careful aim at the hordes of enemies (including space Dwarfs, Giants, Walruses, Penguin Vikings, etc.) and chucking this projectile at them. You can rack up combos and pull off special attacks, shooting for the highest level score you can try to get. Upgrades and power-ups further your offense potential for these battle situations. If the boss fights feel like a breeze to you, step up the challenge by playing “Rage Quit” and “New Game+” modes afterward.
