You know what we need? Another movie inspired by a video game. Can you hear my dripping sarcasm? It’s raining over here.
If the scores on Rotten Tomatoes are any indication, movie adaptations of video games do poorly in theatrical settings. Very few strike the balance of being awesome to watch and consistent with the original game.
Riddle me this, Batman: What happens when you do a film adaptation of a Tom Clancy game?
Deadline has reported that Ubisoft is talking with Paramount Pictures over a potential Splinter Cell film tie-in. No specific Splinter Cell was singled out of the bunch, and the only real comment made by the studio is that “there is no deal.”
Tom Clancy has had quite a lot of movies made based off of his books, but this is the first time word has surfaced about an adaptation based off of one of his video games. Actually, Clancy wrote a Splinter Cell book based off of the games which are based off of his prior books… this loop is getting too confusing.
As we all know, interest in movie adaptations of games rise and fall like the gentle waves of disappointment, so whether this project comes to fruition is the biggest mystery of all. With titles like Bioshock and Uncharted sitting on the shelf collecting dust, I wouldn’t be surprised if this idea stealthily faded into the night.
