While Pokemon Sun and Moon plan to shake the Pokemon flagship video game franchise up, the series as a whole has a long history of titles dating back 20 years now. People can actually feel a sense of nostalgia when they remember saving Saffron City from Team Rocket in Red and Blue, that jaw dropping moment when the final boss of Gold and Silver was the Champion protagonist from the previous generation. And that doesn’t even cover the adventures in the Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos regions of the Pokemon world. The TV series of Pokemon doesn’t directly stick to the story of the video games, and vice versa. While Ash travels to these lands, challenging the same gyms as the games, and loses all the Pokemon League battles ever because he’s a loser – the television show adds their own plot lines as filler to extend the length of the seasons and overall universe.
In Pokemon Generations, that situation is addressed. Watch the announcement trailer and learn about what action-packed stories are headed your way soon.
A video series of animated shorts will take us through the key moments of every Pokemon game from Red and Blue through X and Y. It’s unknown how exactly this will pan out in terms of delivery, but we know for sure by what we see in the video there’s plans to include a bit of everything. Some Red Gyarados action, throw in some Team Rocket, and even a quick flash of Zygarde. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Pokemon Company try to do something like this. People should still remember the Pokemon Origins videos that retold the events of the Red and Blue games, but in a more extended format.
Pokemon Generations starts on September 16th at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET. Two episodes will be released that day, with additional ones being released on a regular basis through December 23rd. To check them out when they arrive, stay tuned to the Pokemon YouTube channel.
