New Report States Nintendo NX Will Use Cartridges

Nintendo made some bigger reveals during their Nintendo Direct earlier this week. However, one subject that has still evaded gamers was any news regarding the company’s upcoming console, code-named the Nintendo NX. With that said, there has not been any shortage of news regarding reports and rumors.

In the past, we’ve heard a wide range of rumors and supposed leaks from inside sources. One of those was Nintendo’s interest in going back to a more cartridge-based physical media rather than placing their video games and software on discs.

There are a few aspects that would make cartridge-based video games more favorable for Nintendo such as how well they tend to hold up compared to discs along with manufactured costs. Though there has been disadvantages that have been brought up by gamers such as the amount of space a cartridge could hold compared to discs.

The latest report comes from the Wall Street Journal, which was covered by GameSpot. Apparently, the reporter spoke with people who were familiar with the matter and revealed that the NX will in fact be using cartridge media instead of discs. However, we still have to claim these statements as mere rumors until Nintendo makes an official statement.

With the Nintendo NX prepping for a launch window of March 2017, Nintendo will likely make an official NX reveal sooner rather than later. This will be interesting to see how they spin the console release as the company will be missing a prime holiday launch opportunity.
