Epic Games Unveils Unreal Engine 4 in Live Presentation

June 8, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Epic Games put together a live presentation of its latest game engine at E3.

The release of Microsoft and Sony's next generation consoles is nowhere to be seen on the horizon, but that isn't stopping Epic Games from developing a brand new engine that makes full use of cutting edge PC hardware.

Epic Games has thrown together a live presentation of its new Unreal Engine 4. The walkthrough was presented by Epic's senior technical artist Alan Willard, who showed a room full of journalists the capabilities of its next gen engine, which will undoubtedly serve as a backbone to many videogame titles in the future.

Instead of making any attempts to predict the specs of both Microsoft and Sony's next generation consoles and developing the engine around those specs, the developer says that they're simply developing the engine to scale with the latest hardware. It'll give them the ability to throw everything they can at the new consoles once they do come out and have a lot of room to maneuver.

The live demonstration took place in a specially designed level that showcased the full range of the Unreal Engine 4's capabilities. Needless to say, it's pretty, and we can't wait to see it in action in a real game.
