In a piece published over at Penny Arcade Report, Alex Hutchinson – creative director on Assassin’s Creed 3 – discussed the persona of game character Benjamin Franklin. He noted that the team “went with the more unusual sides of him,”
One of these interesting characteristics about Benjamin Franklin is that of his love for women. This is not to say most men like women, but Franklin apparently had a super-soft spot for them.
There is more information available about Franklin specifically after the link, but Hutchinson also went on to discuss a problem the team faced in development.
“It’s super difficult, this period, because no one famous dies,” said Hutchinson. “We have a rule: everyone dies in the right year, at the right place. They have to be real people. We don’t get enough mileage out of it, I think it’s kind of magical, and yet no one knows. I don’t know how we make it more obvious.
“Every single person is a legit person, and they die in the right place at the right time,”
It is almost unsettling to think that very few people noticed the historical accuracy behind previous Assassin’s Creed games. While the games are not correctly depicting of how these people were killed, they died at the right times.
