Yesterday EA put together a so called “indie bundle†on Valve’s Steam service the other day. Games included in the bundle are Deathspank, Gatling Gears, Warp, Shank 1, and Shank 2 and were also sold individually at lower prices. People were kind of doing a “huh?†type deal when they heard the news about this but developer Markus Persson is taking the offensive. He seems to be really upset with them about the indie bundle and has tweeted some very heated words.
EA releases an “indie bundle?†That’s not how that works, Ea. Stop attempting to ruin everything, you bunch of cynical bastards.
While I’m not sure if an indie bundle is going to “ruin everythingâ€, it sure is weird for an established publisher to launch an indie bundle of their own especially when the games in the pack have been published by a well known publisher.
Anyways, Notch went on to tweet this as well.
Indies are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying it.
EA has been in the spotlight a lot recently for numerous things. However I don’t think they’ve ever been accused of destroying gaming. I have to partially agree with Notch though because publishers tend to try and pander to the masses. This leads to games like Madden Fifa 2013 and ModernField Battleduty 3 being the only games released by developers because it’s the “safe bet†and lots of people just like to jump and shoot and buy $60 games that basically do the same thing over and over again. So yes, in a way EA is sort of destroying video games, but so are other publishers who try and shape how a game should be.
Also, on a random note Mojang is no longer an indie studio according to Notch.
