Nintendo's online service has been a bit lackluster, to say the least. Normally, it would suit the needs of everyone just fine – but for the average gamer in today's gaming space, that is not so. A strong Playstation Network coming from Sony and an even stronger Xbox LIVE from Microsoft leaves Nintendo in an odd predicament.
Well, it looks like Nintendo wants to start upping their stake in the online realm. Nintendo's Satoru Iwata commented today on their plans.
"Starting from [New Super Mario Bros. 2], the company will offer the software titles that Nintendo itself publishes in both packaged and digital download formats so that our consumers can choose the way to purchase them," Iwata stated.
This will give players more choice, and could be the beginning of a much-improved online service coming from the realm of Nintendo.
It is also worth noting that Iwata said the same will apply "from day one of the Wii U's launch," which tells us that Nintendo looks to strengthen the public's use of their WiiWare service in preparation for the next console generation.
