The first batch of reviews for Crackdown 2 have gone live, with most of the critics pointing out that, if you’ve already played Crackdown, the game is not a significant improvement on its predecessor and falls a bit flat for a game that has been in development for the last 3 years. Although, if you’re new to the world of Crackdown, the over-the-top action, collecting orbs to gain insane abilities and exploring the city would be an exciting prospect for anyone who likes sandbox-action games.
The only reviewer who ripped the game apart was a certain Jim Sterling of Destructoid.com giving the game a poor score of 4 out of 10. Jim wrote,
Crackdown 2 is incredible fun, providing all the thrills, spills and chills of the original Crackdown. It looks gorgeous, it feels empowering, and the collection of Agility Orbs is as addictive as ever. All of this is true… for about ten minutes. After playing the game for several hours (you can beat it in a handful), however, Crackdown 2 essentially is the original Crackdown, only with bad pacing, increased repetition, and far less content overall.
