Last week Vita sales were reported to be at an all time low at a little under 9,000 units. This week though has that sales figure beat with it’s lowest sales ever at 8,250 units. This is far less than what the Vita’s competitor, the 3DS is selling and even less than what the PSP is selling. Sony is really in some deep trouble if they can’t figure this one out. The worst thing about this? These are the sales in Japan.
Usually Japan is the one throwing themselves at Japanese gaming products but the PS Vita seems to have flopped so far in it’s native country.
The PS Vita is a great device, it’s just priced too damn high. Also, with not a lot of games out you’re left wondering why you want to spend nearly $300 for such a device when the 3DS and smartphones have more games and the former is far cheaper. I really wanted a Vita when it came out but instead opted for a smart phone because I was in need of an upgrade. Turns out the smart phone was a better choice, because trying to walk around San Francisco is easier when you have a mobile device to show you the way.
If Sony does not do something about this soon analysts may start advising Sony to do a price drop. Let’s hope they can adapt to and learn from this situation.
