According to a new survey, most parents don’t check the age ratings or content warnings on the video games their kids are playing.
The survey, conducted as part of a study by Playr2.com, found that nearly two-thirds of parents admit to not checking the classification ratings and content warnings on the games their children play on home consoles. Over a thousand parents with children under the age of seventeen that play video games were interviewed as part of the study, with a whopping 55% stating that they “did not think that age ratings mattered for video games.”
Meanwhile, the study also found that 61% of parents don’t actually think that violent video games affect their children’s behaviour negatively, with 76% claiming that because video games don’t mirror real life, they have no effect on children’s behaviour.
According to the study, while 54% of parents would be concerned if their child was watching an 18+ movie, just over half would be concerned about their child playing an 18+ game.
