Blizzard Entertainment launched a new patch for Overwatch on PC, the developer announced today.
The biggest changes center on two heroes players have been concerned with—McCree and Widowmaker. McCree felt overpowered to a lot of players, especially given his flashbag and fan-the-hammer combination. Because “McCree was performing too well against all targets,” the developer decided to reduce the damage of his alternate fire from 70 to 45. His recovery time (“the amount of time before McCree starts reloading”) has been decreased from .75 to .3 seconds.
For Widowmaker, Blizzard adjusted the alternate fire on the heroes’ weapon, decreasing the base damage from 15 to 12. Scoped damage was left unchanged. Widowmaker’s headshot multiplier was increased from 2x to 2.5x. Blizzard also made it necessary for players to “wait for the unscoping animation to completely finish before scoping.”
Her infra-sight ultimate cost was also increased by 10 percent. It sounds like Blizzard may have “lower[ed] the frustration threshold a little bit,” as they intended.
Additionally, Blizzard fixed a few bugs, including a bug that “allowed Mercy to gain ultimate charge whenever damage boosting an ally who was attacking a barrier or ice wall,” and a bug that “allowed Reaper to shadow step to unintended locations on certain maps.”
Many of these changes will be included in a larger patch heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “at a later date.”
