Harvest Moon Success Attributed to Farmville

April 4, 2012 by Jacob Saylor

Yasuhiro Wada, creator of Harvest Moon, claims Farmville is one of the reasons for his game’s success.

Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada believes that Farmville is one of the main reasons his Harvest Moon franchise has seen so much success is that of Farmville.

“I believe [Farmville] helped by increasing the market,” Wada said.

This is actually an extremely plausible idea, being that Facebook and Farmville have 'grown' a huge amount of awareness concerning the genre.

Wada continues, “In Japan, the latest Harvest Moon game released for the 3DS, and it’s a huge success over there. It’s because in Japan there’s Farmville, but there are also a lot of other farming social games on their version of Facebook, Mixi,"

“I believe the people that have played those games were more willing to go out and give Harvest Moon a shot this time around.”

It is not often we see developers give such praise to others in this day and age, so this is a breath of fresh air. When looked from a developer's perspective, I would expect that they would agree. There are tons of good, wonderful, and awesome ideas flowing through the industry – give credit where it is due, like I am about to do!
