Grasshopper Manufacture has revealed in the latest issue of Japanese game rag Famitsu (via AndriaSang), it's latest project Killer is Dead. If that title gives you flashbacks to studio head Suda51's breakout cult hit Killer7, it's meant too. The game is meant to take the team back to it's roots in assassin stories as seen in Killer7 and the No More Heroes series.
Players will take the role of an "executioner" who's job is hunting down S-rank assassin's. Missions will have players traveling around various locations in a world that's an extension of our own rather than science fiction, and the gameplay will consist of the sword action from previous Grasshopper developed titles with some new mechanics thrown in.
The game has several key words and phrases like "Love" and "Brilliant Game" and also features a number of female characters styled after the famous Bond girls of 007's adventures.
Grasshopper never really seems to get the "game" part of it's games all the way right, but they certainly have character. It's something I've come to accept and expect from them and I'd be lying if I said Lollipop Chainsaw wasn't one of my most anticipated games of 2012.
Killer is Dead will be published in Japan by Kodokawa Games with plans for a western release already underway. It'll release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
