In a few days since Team17 announced Worms Revolution, the latest title in the long-running Worms series of games, the company—which touts itself as the UK's oldest independent game developer—has revealed that Andy Davidson, the original creator of Worms, is set to return to game development.
Despite the popularity of Worms, Davidson left the game industry to pursue other interests. "I left Team17 feeling I hadn’t finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away," he said. "I’ve returned to scratch the creative itch that’s been bothering me for the last fourteen years. It’s nice to be back at Team17, it’s as though there’s been a revolution in the studio itself—there’s a real creative buzz about the place."
Andy will join the team of developers at Team17 to work on Worms Revolution, offering his experience and insight to the developers as they work towards the game's release later this year. He's also said to be working on a "variety of new game ideas."
Worms Revolution will be out on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the third quarter this year.
