Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner got an interesting package in the mail yesterday. A post on Mechner’s blog chronicles his rediscovery of precious, original source code for development of Prince of Persia on the Apple 2.
“My Dad called from New York to tell me he was doing some spring cleaning and had shipped me a carton of old games and other stuff of mine he’d found in the back of a closet,” reads the blog post.
His plans are to share the source code with the entire world if he and his “digital-archeology-minded friend” can somehow transform it into “some kind of 21st-century-readable format.”
He notes that it is a busy time for him, and that he is unsure when he will get to the task, but game developers are definitely an interesting bunch. Something tells us here at Gameranx that they will figure it out sooner rather than later.
