The team over at Ubisoft did – for a small time – ponder the idea of having a female lead for their upcoming action-adventure game.
Speaking to VG247, Ubisoft designer Alex Hutchinson had this to say after he was questioned on the subject: “It’s always up in the air. I think lots of people want it,”
However, he was quick in noting that the team was hard-pressed to make such a decision. “In this period it’s been a bit of a pain. The history of the American Revolution is the history of men,” he said, continuing with, “There are a few people, like John Adams’ wife. They tried very hard in the TV series to not make it look like a bunch of dudes, but it really is a bunch of dudes.”
Apart from the era this game is placed in, he also went into detail concerning why it wasn’t going to work from their perspective as game developers.
“It felt like, if you had all these men in every scene and [there was a female assassin] secretly, stealthily in crowds of dudes, it starts to feel kind of wrong. People would stop believing it,” Hutchison said.
Mr. Hutchinson raises some valid points regarding this issue, but he is one of many. Please comment below and let us know what you think.
