Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is rumored to be working on a reboot of classic action-adventure series Legacy of Kain.
An insider source told VG24/7 that the project features a new art direction for the franchise, which centers around vampire antihero Kain and his quest to become human again. At the moment, further specifics are hard to come by.
The situation has also been muddled be a bit of strange language, as the rumor doesn't mention Legacy of Kain by name, but instead states that Crystal Dynamics is working on a "reboot of Soul Reaver." Soul Reaver isn't actually a standalone franchise, but the subtitle of a pair of games in the Legacy of Kain franchise featuring a different protagonist, Raziel.
This distinction could mean that the game will center on Raziel rather than Kain himself, or it could just be a bit of confusion on the part of the source.
The Legacy of Kain franchise debuted on the PlayStation way back in 1996 and was fairly popular before it dropped off the map completely in the wake of 2003's Defiance, making it a perfect candidate for a modern reimagining. The IP is currently owned by Crystal Dynamics parent Square Enix, so everything lines up on the legal side, as well.
According to the tipster, we can expect a reveal of the game sometime this year, possibly as soon as June's E3 trade show.
