The Last of Us Production Is Forced To Recast An Actor

January 5, 2026 by Dennis Patrick

Season 3 cast might look a little different.

For ages, it felt like there was no real hope of seeing solid adaptations of a video game franchise hit the big or small screen. These adaptations typically strayed too far from the source material, leaving fans of the original content let down and failing to captivate an audience outside the video game realm. However, that’s started to change lately. We’re seeing a similar MCU experience for video games with popular shows like The Last of Us.

HBO caught lightning in a bottle with The Last of Us debut season. It was something that not only fans of the video games enjoyed but also persuaded those who had never heard of the game to tune in. The weekly show took that first season to slowly tell the story from the debut video game for the series. However, it wouldn’t be until season two that we saw the show forced to split the storyline into multiple seasons. That second game was quite a behemoth to tell fully in just a single season.

The Last of Us Season 3 Is Recasting An Actor

We’ll avoid going into too many spoilers in this post in case you haven’t watched the series or even played the games. That said, the second season saw Abby and her friends go on a journey to locate Joel. Among that group of friends is Manny, a character who was portrayed by Danny Ramirez. The actor stepped in to lend a hand in telling this second season, but when it comes to season three, he is bowing out.

According to Variety, the publication has reported that Danny Ramirez is not returning to film the third season of the show. According to the reasons given, there appear to be scheduling conflicts preventing Danny from returning for the next season, though we don’t know what Danny might be stepping into next to prevent his return. Likewise, we don’t know who will be joining the cast of The Last of Us to portray Manny going forward.

That said, we should see The Last of Us continue on, and it might even see more than a third season. Furthermore, Danny is not the only one who is stepping aside for the next season. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann also took his leave from the production before season three could get started.
