Gearbox seems committed to making Borderlands 4 the best that it can be.

Community member Ayden shared their complaints about the game to Graeme Timmins, creative director for the game. They said this on Twitter:
I still thinking that you guys will not fix the fps drops an stutters on bl4, I’m on ps5 pro and that’s not ok to play game with fps drops in big 2025 and soon 2026. We don’t have the ps5 pro enhanced so the minimum things to do is to fix fps drops
Graeme gave this clear and concise response:
Performance is still one of our highest priorities, each patch is continuing to improve it. We’re not done.
Where Is Borderlands 4 Now?
Borderlands 4 is in an odd place now. The game didn’t quite meet initial sales expectations at launch, but Take-Two is confident that it will sell well in the coming months.
You may have read multiple takes on how the game has lost most of its players, but this isn’t as big an issue as it seems.
Why? Because Gearbox is not developing it as a ‘truly live service title.’ Subsequently, Take-Two did not give the game live service goals, in comparison to the likes of Fortnite, Destiny 2, the 2K Sports games, or Grand Theft Auto Online.
So, Gearbox can credibly get Borderlands 4 back on track sometime in the future. The franchise itself is known for a potentially endless endgame, because players can always experiment with their builds, and they can always go chasing rare weapons.
Borderlands 4’s Real Achilles Heel
Gearbox is obviously still working to optimize their game, but even if it takes too long they will eventually finish that work.
The real problem Gearbox has to address in the long term is to address the community’s big complaint; the lack of an engaging endgame.
Gearbox now knows they need to change their plans for Borderlands 4’s roadmap, to add a raid boss and give fans the satisfying experience that will make them want to keep coming back.
What Gearbox Needs To Do Differently In The Age Of Live Service
While Borderlands 4 isn’t real live service, Gearbox still needs to make changes to account for the current age of live service games.
Every developer dreads the knowledge that some players will simply stay loyal to their favorite games, whether that’s Fortnite, Genshin Impact, or more. They need to make sure they have a solid game plan that will overcome that and get their own fans to come back for good.
