Customization, in regard to clothing, might seem like a small thing in the larger scale that is video games, but don’t be fooled. While it may appear to be a “small modicum of control, “it’s actually something rather substantial that gives the player the feeling of “inserting themselves into the world.” Sure, there are plenty of players who pick one outfit they like and stick with it the rest of the game, or don’t change things from default clothing options. However, in games like GTA 6, which is all about “big life in the big city,” and crime, it’s nice to have options to change in and out of as the money starts rolling in.
Over on Reddit, though, one player called out Rockstar Games and stated that they hope an “issue” from the last game in the series doesn’t carry over to the upcoming one:
“Please, Rockstar. PLEASE don’t make Jason and Lucia change clothes when you’re not using them
I hated it in GTA V, because you could almost never have the 3 main characters customized exactly how you wanted without them randomly changing outfits while you’re not actively following them. It made all the different options almost useless, unless you were paying attention and going back and forwards between missions to change back to whatever you like.”
They also asked for the game to come out before they die…but that’s every fan’s wish at this point. Just saying.
Going back to the “clothes issue,” we can definitely see how annoying that would be to customize your character the way you want them to look, and then, when a mission changes and you’re not controlling one of them, they go into other outfits.
Now, to be clear, it’s inevitable that Jason and Lucia will have some clothes changes that aren’t controlled by the player, as certain missions in GTA 6 might dictate a look, and there are cutscenes, such as one we know will be in a nightclub, where the characters will “dress up” to fit the location. However, after those sequences are done, it would be respectful to the player’s autonomy for Jason and Lucia to go back to the outfits they had on before.
Currently, we don’t know how control will go with Jason and Lucia, as we’re not sure if we’ll be ping-ponging between them, or whether players can choose to play as one or the other throughout the game.
Either way, players will want them to “look a certain way,” and Rockstar should respect that.
