Diablo 3's release date has just been confirmed—made official, even—by Blizzard itself. The game is set for a May 15 release, and will be playable for both the PC and Mac. The game is set for a global release, so players from the world over will be able to pick it up on the same day with no delay. It will be available in retail as well as digitally, through the Blizzard's online store here.
“After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch,” said Blizzard chief Mike Morhaime.
“We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15.”
Diablo 3 takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo 2, as players return to the world of Sanctuary. The Barbarian class makes a return—this time older and wiser—and joins four new classes against the forces of darkness: the Monk, Wizard, Demon Hunter and Shaman.
Players will once again venture into the depths of hell to take on evil. The game will feature 4-player cooperative gameplay out of the box, with built in support for Battle.net. Players will also have access to a newly implemented auction house that allows them to trade their weapons in a system very much like World of Warcraft's. Players can even sell and buy items for real money thanks to the built-in PayPal integration.
We'll be seeing you on the front lines this May.
