Nintendo is ending their Game Vouchers program.

The news was first shared by Nintendo in Japan, as shared by OatmealDome on Bluesky. Nintendo of Europe made the announcement on Twitter, but Nintendo of America has already launched the support page confirming the news. We expect they’ll make the public announcement on social media when it’s timely for the US later today.
Nintendo of America’s support page says this:
As of 11:59 PM Pacific Time January 30, 2026, it will no longer be possible to purchase Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Any vouchers you purchase on or before that date will work exactly as they currently do—unused vouchers expire 12 months after the date of purchase.
In February of this year, Nintendo announced that they were ending the Gold Points program for Switch Online. Subsequently, they also revealed that they were not going to add any Switch 2 games to the Game Voucher program. These were programs that helped Nintendo Switch users save money on buying games, so if Nintendo doesn’t make new discount or reward programs, games will simply be more expensive moving forward.
A Game Voucher, which could be purchased for $ 99.98, would allow you to buy two eligible games, saving you potentially as much as $ 20. Most of these eligible games were developed and published by Nintendo, though for a time they also included games from other developers such as Square Enix.
The defunct Gold Points program allowed you to earn 10 % in in-store credit out of every game you bought with cash. As you can imagine, Game Vouchers and Gold Points combined gave Switch Online subscribers an incredibly cheap path to buy Nintendo’s games on the Switch, even to collect them all. But it must be said there were other aspects to this program as well. Because Game Vouchers were a digital-only program, it encouraged Switch users to make digital collections.
This program may have helped Nintendo sell 72 Switch games to one million units each and above. But as we can see from the Switch 2 console and game pricing, Nintendo has made the bet to raise prices to match the higher costs of making the high-performance Switch 2. While we certainly hope Nintendo makes new discount programs in the future, given the current state of the industry, we don’t see that happening anytime soon.
In any case, there are a limited number of games eligible in the Game Vouchers program, so if you are still interested in availing of them, you’ll want to check your Switch account now. You can check the list of eligible Game Voucher games here.
