Overwatch Animated Short “Dragons” Now Available

May 16, 2016 by Nick Monroe

Dragons tells about the rivalry between Hanzo and Genji.

The third of a four part series of animated Overwatch shorts has come out.

The first animated short “Recall”, introduced us to Overwatch‘s world and Winston the Gorilla. The second animated short told about Widowmaker, the Talon Assassin. This third entry, “Dragons”, tells of a fight between two brothers.

Each of these animated shorts has their own theme and cinematic style to it. “Dragons” takes on the feeling of a Kung-Fu action movie. In the ancient past, two dragons fought over how to rule the land. One dragon ends up totally destroying the other one, but the thrill of victory wears off and he regrets what he did.

One day a stranger asks the dragon why he was so sad. The dragon says he killed his brother while seeking power, but without a brother the dragon has no clear direction in life.

Hanzo and Genji get in a fight. There’s jumping, arrow shooting, and sword fighting. Then both of them speak in some ancient tongues and dragons fly out of their weapons. Bringing the story to a full circle. (They set up the fact that they’re brothers as a plot twist, but the video description pretty much spoils it beforehand).

Alternative interpretations of the animated short are also available.

Overwatch arrives May 24th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Facebook and Twitter are the best places for the latest updates on the game.
