While many of us are still recovering from Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct that fully revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 and many games that are upon it, Nintendo isn’t taking the foot off the pedal. Not only have they been dropping developer interviews of all kinds since the showcase, but they also have been doing their Nintendo Treehouse live sessions to further showcase some of the games from the Direct. One of those titles includes Donkey Kong Bonanza, one of the standout titles from the Direct. Fans were thrilled to see DK get a new solo title, but they wanted to know how he would play in his new game.
Thankfully, the demo below showcases just that and more. In the 20-minute demo session, the Nintendo Treehouse crew highlights how destructive and fun the new underground world that Donkey Kong winds up in is. Almost right off the bat, they use DK’s strength to shatter through the ground and reveal a golden banana that is deep underground.
The team noted that they want players to just go nuts on the environment and destroy all they can so that they can find whatever might lie underneath. That level of destruction can also be used in combat and traversal, as you can pick up large chunks of the ground and boulders and then throw them at enemies. Or, you can make a “boogie board” of sorts and then slide around the world to get to your destination more quickly.
It’s your world, so destroy it and use it as much as you desire! Another thing to take note of is just how beautiful Donkey Kong Bonanza looks on the Nintendo Switch 2. Even the team stopped playing the demo at one point to examine the detail that was etched all over the place. If you look up at the “sky” at one point during the gameplay demo, you’ll see that they’re actually under the ocean! That’s right, not only are you underground, but you’re somehow under the ocean of DK’s world! That’s not trippy at all…
Another thing that was brought up in the demo and then shown off later in pictures and such are the money creatures and enemies you’ll face in the game. We see “Salvager Monkeys” in the demo, but we also know that at least one of the Kongs, Cranky Kong, will be in the game. Not to mention, there’s the “Odd Rock” that not only talks to DK but sings, too!
This will truly be a unique adventure when it arrives on July 17th.
