Activision has revealed the details of Verdansk’s return in Call of Duty Warzone.

Of course, we’ll be making a guide for this later down the line, so we’re focusing on what you’ll want to know first. For now, the teams who remade Verdansk (Raven Software, Beenox, and High Moon Studios) didn’t elaborate what technology they specifically used for this remake, so you’ll have to wait for Digital Foundry’s technical review for more on that.
For the most part, the teams rebuilt Verdansk to feel the same way it did in 2020, so that when you look around and move around it everything should be familiar. Even the way the supply boxes look and the original announcer are coming back.
What changes they made are QOL improvements, so that things that were originally annoyances have been removed or reduced. For example, telephone and electrical poles have been shortened so you aren’t as likely to get caught on them when parachuting down.
Subsequently, it should be easier to move in steep and rocky terrain, and overall traversal is easier to service gameplay. As they already boasted, the graphics and especially lighting around the city have also been improved, and this all serves to improve gameplay.
You’ll get to play in Verdansk in these modes at launch:
Battle Royale – 150 Players, 25 minutes
Battle Royale Casual – 148 Players, with 28 human players and as much as 120 bots
Plunder Quads – 100 Players, 20 minutes
Call of Duty Warzone Bootcamp – 44 players, with 12 humans and 32 bots, 15 minutes
Battle Royale Casual in particular will probably interest most players the most. While there may be some hardcore players who’ll deride that it’s around, Activision will of course want to keep as many players as they want playing, to keep Call of Duty Warzone thriving. Don’t be surprised if other live service games try similar modes, with disclosed bot players, if it proves to be a success.
Activision is all teasing some things that will be coming mid-season, which they’ve obviously withheld to keep fans excited. Specifically, there will be a subterranean area of the ruined city that could be accessible in the future.
While Call of Duty Warzone is facing fierce criticism from players, it’s obvious that the hype train for Verdansk cannot be denied. We’ll see if this turns out to be the success that Activision and the Call of Duty players need.
