Dead Space 1 and 2 are incredibly well-loved this generation – a couple of the few survival horror games to make it into existence this generation and two of the even narrower band of horror games that made it onto consoles. Would an FPS game have managed to convey that same sense of isolation against unbeatable odds? Would it have been different enough to warrant seperation from all those other FPS games on the market? As it happens, we might soon find out.
A job listing for Visceral Games, the developer behind Dead Space and Dante's Inferno, is looking for a multiplayer level designer to work on an exciting IP, somebody who must be an "avid FPS gamer". While this doesn't exactly confirm anything, the most obvious theory would be a Dead Space FPS, especially considering there were rumours of such a game being in development last year.
There's also rumours that the next Dead Space will run on Battlefield 3's Frostbite 2.0 engine, a decision that will ensure ripping apart of monsters will look as beautifully bloody as is possible on consoles.
