The April issue of OXM that outed Medal of Honor: Warfighter has made its way to subscribers, bringing a host of new details on the follow up to Danger Close's 2010 franchise reboot.
According to the magazine (via CVG and NeoGAF), the game will be powered by Battlefield 3's Frostbite 2.0 engine, meaning you'll see a serious visual upgrade over the last game.
As with the last game, Warfighter's plot will be penned by actual Tier 1 operators, with missions that are loosely based on real-life events and soldiers. Preacher, Voodoo, Mother, and other prominent characters from the first game will be returning for more action.
Warfighter's story will also place an increased focus on the personal issues Tier 1 operators can face. For example, one mission features an emotionally charged phone call home for one soldier, whose marriage has begun to suffer under the stresses of the job.
Single-player missions will apparently feature more player choice this go around, as well. One example segment offered players the choice between three different methods of breaching a building (kicking in the door, using C4, throwing in a grenade, using a flashbang), with each option playing out differently.
Danger Close is placing an emphasis on "authenticity," but that doesn't mean they're looking to simulate actual warfare. Your health will still regenerate, and there will likely be plenty of other FPS contrivances to keep things fun, but the action will be much more plausible and less like a Michael Bay film. One mission sends you to a Isabela City in the Philippines, which has been flooded by a typhoon. Another features a race to extraction as one your teammates is bleeding out from a gunshot wound.
The game's multiplayer mode, which is being handled in-house this go around, will pit operators from around the world against each other, with British, Australian, German, and Polish special forces units all mentioned by name. Danger Close is staying tight lipped on what the multiplayer gameplay will involve, but they've teased a special "hardcore" mode that features one-shot kills.
Warfighter will also be shipping with some form of co-op gameplay, though it seems unlikely that it will amount to a full campaign.
We expect to hear much more about Medal of Honor: Warfighter on March 6, when EA will be showing the game to the press at a special event in San Francisco.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be out on the PS3, 360, and PC this October.
