Back in October 2015, it was announced that Jade Raymond’s Motive studio was going to help EA gain an important market share it was lacking.
Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund told IGN at the time that “EA is not known to make gigantic action games like Assassin’s Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games that are really big. The strategic direction that we put in motion is to expand our portfolio more into that segment, to see what can we bring to gamers that maybe hasn’t been done before.”
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that this project wouldn’t be complete until 2020 or 2021, according to the latest earnings call.
Jade Raymond was an important figure behind the Assassin’s Creed series, and EA seemed confident that she would help fill the gap in their video game offerings. Jorgensen also mentioned that an “action genre” game in the Star Wars universe was also in development.
Also talked about yesterday was the future of Star Wars Battlefront, Titanfall 2 launching in 2016, Mass Effect Andromeda getting a release date, and a Battlefield 1 Q&A.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes from Motive Studios efforts.
