We have new rumors for what Microsoft has planned for the Switch 2.
Of course, we expected to some degree that Microsoft would be a supporter of Nintendo’s next console. Microsoft has a solid working relationship with their colleague and competitor. Because of this, both companies have worked on things like Banjo and Kazooie joining Super Smash Bros. and the GoldenEye 64 rerelease on both Xbox and Switch, to make all their fans happy.
But what’s going on right now is a bit different, as Microsoft has chosen to pivot towards bringing more games to competing platforms. Some fans argue this devalues the Xbox console, but there’s a credible case to be made that their decision is giving their studios more chances to be successful. With Xbox Series X|S bowing out in the console wars, Microsoft arguably makes more money this way.
Just last week, we reported on PH Brazil, AKA Brazilian video game journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, claiming that Microsoft would heavily support the Switch 2 in a new YouTube video. Lippe particularly claims that Microsoft will be their biggest third party publisher, and now we have more reason to believe that.
As shared on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit by user IcePopsicleDragon, eXtas1s has made a video of his own. But unlike Lippe, eXtas1s actually name dropped the Microsoft games he believes are on the way.
And that would be these games:
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection
- Diablo 4
- Call of Duty
- Fallout 4
- Starfield
Once again, some of these games aren’t that surprising. Microsoft has a contract with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty games to their platforms. Fallout 4 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are older games that could be ported to the original Switch.
Starfield and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 definitely stand out as big titles that one could question were possible for Nintendo’s next portable. We can imagine Microsoft making a pared down version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 just for the Switch 2, but Starfield?
Starfield‘s PC requirements already demand a minimum of 16 GB RAM, well below the Switch 2’s rumored 12 GB of RAM. The other rumored specs, such as the T239 SOC, would not clear the bar for being able to run Bethesda’s space-faring title.
But of course, even with Nintendo being coerced into an early reveal of the Switch 2, they deliberately withheld a lot of information. That includes whether these rumored specs were correct at all. Then again, Microsoft and Bethesda can opt to give Switch 2 players a cloud version of the game, even if it isn’t particularly a popular choice.
And we’re making what should be the obvious point that we can only speculate on whether these games can run on the new console at all. But there’s a lot of reason to believe that Microsoft will be supporting the Switch 2 in a big way.
That’s because Jason Schreier let it out last week that Nintendo released the trailer early so that 3rd party developers could start revealing their games. Now, one could put two and two together and ask, is Microsoft revealing the games they will be releasing on the Switch 2 on their Xbox Developer Direct?
We don’t know if that will be the case at all, but it would be the perfect lead in to benefit both Microsoft and Nintendo. So let’s wait and see if Microsoft and other developers start revealing their Switch 2 games.
