It wasn’t long ago that we got our first real look at the upcoming installment of the beloved Witcher franchise, The Witcher 4. Last year’s Game Awards highlighted this game to fans worldwide. While only a trailer highlighted the fact that we’ll be stepping into this new game as Ciri, it was enough to give fans a jolt of excitement. We’re finding out that new developers were preparing for this new installment a few years ago by making a new quest for The Witcher 3.
Do you remember The Witcher 3’s next-gen update? It came a few years ago at this point, but with it, the game received a slew of upgrades. These improved the visuals so that the game looked better than ever, and you had some quality of life changes. However, you might have dabbled back into this game for the new quest that CD Projekt Red offered.
The quest was The Eternal Fire’s Shadow, inspired by the Netflix The Witcher series. That alone might have enticed some players to return to this fantasy RPG. However, it wasn’t just a quest to give fans something new. Instead, new developers at CD Projekt Red made this quest to help prepare themselves for their upcoming work on The Witcher 4.
Philipp Weber, the narrative director working on The Witcher 4, took to X and revealed that this quest was a task with new designers and writers at the studio. By going through this quest build with one of their most senior quest designers, who’s been with the team since the first Witcher game, the newcomers got into the vibe for working on The Witcher 4.
Of course, the development studio has since gone into full-scale production for the upcoming Witcher installment. There is also plenty of hype about the game, with not only the new monsters we’ll be fighting but also just how immersive this new chapter will be for players.
