Depending on who you talk to in the video game industry, there are two goals for developers and publishers who make these gaming titles. The first, and the one that should be the BIGGEST focus of the teams, is to make the best possible game. You know, one that’s supremely high quality and blows gamers away by how great it is? However, the second thing that most want is a good profit, with certain companies going out of their way in a bad way to try and get that profit. Then, there are games like GTA 6, which will likely be incredibly high quality and break all sorts of profit records.
That statement isn’t a new trend, by the way. Ever since Rockstar Games confirmed that the title was officially coming, and the first trailer rocked everyone’s worlds, people have been predicting that this could be the biggest moneymaker in gaming history, which is no small feat. After all, the game’s predecessor made a billion dollars in three days! Three days! That’s a lot of sales to get to that number so fast. However, despite there not being a new trailer for over a year, the hype behind GTA 6 hasn’t died down, and many are thinking that the sales could be far grander than we expect.
That includes sites like Dexerto, who compiled many of the predictions from insiders and analysts, and the numbers they’re throwing out is striking. One account felt that the 6th mainline entry in the beloved crime series will get over a billion dollars just in pre-order sales! That’s not hard to believe, as it’s easily one of the most anticipated titles in recent years.
Oh, and as for its first-year sales revenue? There are some saying that the game will cross over $3 billion in that period. That’s insane!
Even those within Rockstar Games have admitted that these projections are lighting a fire within them because they totally want to meet those projections! Who wouldn’t? If the game can pull that off, that would make it one of the biggest releases in entertainment media history! That’s no small feat, especially when you compare it to the movie box office.
Of course, the catch here is that the game has to be of high quality to earn that revenue. Yes, this is Rockstar Games, and they do great things, but it’s never a guarantee until the game comes out, 2023 and 2024 taught us that the hard way.
