At the beginning of The Game Awards, Ninja Gaiden fans were surprised with a special treat, the announcement of a new game. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Which will be coming in the Summer of 2025.
The Ninja Gaiden series has almost always been renowned for being hard fast fast-paced sidescrolling action. The games are tough but fair pushing players to the limits of their abilities and patience. While it can be frustrating at times, nothing could be more rewarding than overcoming those challenges after repeated attempts.
From the team behind Blasphemous, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is promising to be a blend of old meets new. Building on the legacy of the original Tecmo games and refining the gameplay, movements and graphics.
While the game is technically a pixel art offering, the level of detail and crisp animations set it apart from other games in the franchise. Which in this case is a good thing. But the aesthetics do maintain the essence of the 8-bit era that started Ninja Gaiden. The music, however, is a complete departure from the early games on the NES. If the trailer is anything to go by the music absolutely rocks and complements the fast gameplay really well.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound follows a new protagonist Kenji Mozu who is forced to take on the duties of Ryu Hayabusa while he is away attending to family matters. The story is set with a gorgeous cut scene that we catch a glimpse of in the trailer. The music and art style of the animation is reminiscent of the recent Castlevania series on Netflix.
The game is coming to Steam, Xbox, the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5 in the Summer of 2025. If you’d like to find out more about the game check out its Steam page here.
