It’s already been almost a full year since Tekken 8 hit gamers consoles, and the journey to this point hasn’t been as smooth as Bandai Namco would have liked. On the one hand, the game had an incredibly positive reception at launch. Gamers loved the look of the game on PS5 and beyond, the story was fun to play and continued to expand on past games’ drama, there were interesting new modes for players to enjoy, and so on. However, just a month after launch, Bandai Namco inundated the game with microtransactions that continue to plague it as the year ends, making it a title that only some willingly admit to enjoying anymore.
Even despite that lack of love from fans, Bandai Namco continues to provide updates for the title, and today, the trailer for the game’s “Winter Update” dropped. It showed off various upgraded or new features that fans can expect when it drops. For example, there will be some improvements to the game’s Photo Mode, so you can have even more freedom as you set up certain shots or make the characters look a certain way as you ready a specific kind of shot.
For multiplayer, there will be a “Player Search” function that’ll allow you to directly type in another player’s name and find them so you can get to a match more easily. Bandai Namco has also improved the customization element, including adding more slots for your items, the ability to customize the main menu, and more. Plus, as you would expect at this point, there are various Battle Passes being added to the game, including one celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
Bandai Namco also teased what’ll happen in the Spring Update, including a major refinement patch, new moves for the entire roster, and the return of the franchise’s eSports tournament.
But wait! There’s more! Tekken 8 also got a tease of when it’ll drop its final character trailer for its Year 1 DLC, and according to the trailer, it’ll be revealed at The Game Awards on Thursday!
Given this, many players think that this confirms that a 3rd party character is dropping in the title. It wouldn’t be the first time, as the 7th entry had numerous outside franchises represented via characters like Negan, Noctis, and Geese Howard. The biggest “bet” that many people are leaning toward is the arrival of Tifa, as fans have asked for her for a long time, and her skills would fit right into the game.
