Star Citizen has taken more than $113.5 million in funding, or so the developers claim. The crowdfund campaign has earned millions in pledges each month since it was launched in October 2012. It hit the $100 million mark last December and has grown steadily since then, at least according to the official website.
However, in spite of its steady funding, the game has yet to be released. Initially planned for a 2016 release, only portions of the game (released as “modules”) are playable for backers at this time.
In its latest studio report, the developers of Star Citizen provided a new progress update stating that the four studios working on the game are working endlessly to make the game’s release a reality.
Cloud Imperium Games states that it will build on the foundation of Alpha 2.4 and pick up the pace of the game’s development in the coming months.
“As the teams in each studio continue to expand, you’ll see our pace of production continue to pick up as it already has since late 2015,” it wrote. “The knowledge and experience we gain with each new ship built, each new character brought to life, each new landing zone realized, and each new game system coming online will inform the next one after that, meaning that not only will the quantity of our output increase, so will the quality continue to improve.”
Only time will tell whether the developers manage to deliver on their promise.
