Microsoft issued an apology to fans after its 2024 Flight simulator launch crashed and burned. Several players experienced issues logging in and others experienced in-game issues like missing planes and excruciating load times.
As reported by VGC, Microsoft has had to issue an apology to its fans. Its newest version of the legendary flight simulator has struggled with issues. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is an aviation game boasting high resolution, an open world and great attention to detail.
Despite all that detail and claims of superior quality, the gaming experience has not been smooth for players. Many of whom stated that the game would freeze at 97%. When it did load past the loading screen there were often missing planes from players’ aircraft libraries.
Microsoft’s Flight Simulation head Jorg Neumann said in a Launch Day Update video, that they know a lot of people are frustrated. He apologized for the issues that players were experiencing and said that it was the result of a server cache issue caused by a surge in players. Neumann explained that the game was built on a large database and that each user loading in resulted in a query that caused that cache to over-saturate. Despite restricting the cache and bumping up search times to 5X, the system still had issues after 30 minutes. Despite extensive testing in Alpha that simulated 200,000 users, the system was just being overwhelmed. Microsoft is investigating this issue further.
An update on the Microsoft Flight Simulator site states that the issue has been addressed. Regular play should resume accordingly.
