Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is an odd chapter in the franchise’s history. There was a genuine thrill to exploring London’s criminal underworld during the Second Industrial Revolution, and this game emerged as one of Ubisoft’s best realized games.
Still, the game received a mix of excellent and poor reviews, leading to a mixed reception aggregating to the 70s. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is much better than a 70/100 game, but it suffered some continuing backlash from the last game before it, Assassin’s Creed Unity. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate also launched with technical issues, and while it did not have them to the same degree, many gamers expected that it was that bad, even some who didn’t play it.
And so Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has the unusual distinction of being one of the most awarded games in the franchise, including GOTY awards from the 2015 Canadian Video Game awards and Gamespot’s GOTY Awards, and also one of the most poorly reviewed games in the franchise. Ubisoft earnestly worked to fix those technical bugs and improve Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s performance in the years since, and as it turns out, they still cared to this very day.
As Ubisoft announced on their own website, they have published patches on all current generation consoles for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to now run at 60 FPS on all platforms. Xbox Series X and S will get a 31.8 GB patch, while PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro will get a compressed 0.75 GB patch.
These are the new performance rates for each respective platform:
- Xbox Series X – 4K at 60 FPS
- Xbox Series S – 1080p at 60 FPS
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro – both 1080p and 4K at 60 FPS
Interestingly, Ubisoft did not make Assassin’s Creed Syndicate a PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced Title. Perhaps Ubisoft did not see that they would benefit from putting in the extra work to leverage the PlayStation 5 Pro’s capabilities.
That could be the case because Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is nine years old, and not a new release. We have seen that most of the announced games that were PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced are releases from this generation, and were released not too long ago.
It could also be that it’s a little early to do that kind of work, since some games seem to be running worse on the PlayStation 5 Pro’s upscaler PSSR. We wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate does get PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced in the future, but they might just want to make sure everything is working right before they push it.
