Apex Legends was a huge hit when it was released. Respawn Entertainment surprised fans with a sudden drop of this 2019 battle royale hero shooter. Since then, players have been diving into the game with squads as they attempt to take down the opposing teams. However, it looks like EA is finding that Respawn Entertainment’s game is failing to hit the monetization goals they placed for it.
We’re finding out that the missed goals for the goal of turning a profit have sparked interest in supplying a monthly subscription service option. This information comes from Insider Gaming, which reported that a survey went out to several Apex Legends players gauging their interest in paying a monthly fee. Now, this fee wouldn’t be to access the game. Instead, this is still set to be a free-to-play experience. So those of you who enjoy the game more casually and might spend some in-game money from time to time won’t see that changing.
Instead, the monthly fee would be a specific tier of player. Players would get in-game currency and monthly rewards. That’s similar to what we see other free-to-play games offer. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ll see EA go through with this option. It’s certainly an idea they have on their minds, but there’s nothing officially in the works right now.
It would also be interesting to see if this gets more engagement into the game. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. However, if the monthly fee offers enough enticing content, it could offer a nice bump in profits for EA. But again, that’s purely speculative. For now, you can continue playing Apex Legends on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
