Mass Effect 3 Wants You to Take Earth Back in New CG Trailer

February 19, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

A new CGI trailer for Mass Effect 3 has a lot of uncanny valley action going for it.

EA/Bioware is keeping up the marketing for Mass Effect 3 leading up to the release of the game next month. A new trailer released by the publisher is made entirely out of CGI, and is titled “Take Earth Back.” The trailer debuted during AMC’s The Walking Dead.

The full length trailer runs for a couple of minutes, featuring both Commander Shepard and the now-resurrected Ashley Williams who died in my playthrough of Mass Effect.

The trailer begins with a shot of a little girl playing in a field of sunflowers as space shuttles fly by that are promptly shot down from space, presumably by Reapers. The little girl suffers falls deep into the uncanny valley, showcasing Bioware’s apparent inability to create proper CGI characters. What follows is the invasion of the Reapers, who wreak destruction on planet Earth.

Mass Effect 3 will be released on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on March 6, 2012.
