Fans of the Silent Hill franchise have been waiting for Konami to bring this IP back into the limelight. After years of being essentially dormant, the IP had a sudden resurgence. Konami unveiled several games that were being developed, including a Silent Hill 2 remake. Now that we’re days away from the remake’s release, we’re starting to see reviews pop up online.
Embargoes are being lifted, and critic reviews are finally highlighting what fans might expect when they get their hands on Silent Hill 2’s remake. Currently, on Metacritic, the Silent Hill 2 remake is coming in at 87, which is rather strong. I think that might surprise some fans of the franchise who were uncertain if this remake would actually be a game worth playing. You also have to give it to veteran players of the game as it’s a cherished title, and it was being handled by the Bloober Team.
This game project was Bloober Team’s biggest IP to have worked on, leaving fans skeptical about whether they could deliver. Some of the marketing materials early on also left fans a little uneasy, but that slowly shifted. Now that reviews indicate the game is worth your time, this might be a game you’ll be comfortably enjoying in the coming days.
I’m sure seeing these positive reviews is a relief to the Bloober Team as well. We don’t know just what the studio is working on next, but they have previously stated interest in bringing out games similar to Silent Hill 2 going forward. As for players wanting a little more comparison video, you can find a Silent Hill 2 boss battle upload from PlayStation’s YouTube channel below. This video will highlight the gameplay from the 2001 release of Silent Hill 2 and the upcoming remake.
Players interested in picking up a copy of the game can expect it to be available on October 8, 2024. When the game is released, it will be available for PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.
