Bloober Team Interested In Carrying Over Third-Person Horror Games After Silent Hill 2

October 3, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

There are going to be less jump scares as well.

Silent Hill fans are waiting for the release of Silent Hill 2. After years of waiting, Konami decided to bring this iconic survival horror franchise back to the forefront. One of the game projects unveiled to be in the works is a remake of Silent Hill 2. However, rather than having an internal team at Konami handle this project, it was instead delivered to the Bloober Team. We’re now learning that the studio is keen on taking some of the lessons learned from this project and incorporating them into other future releases.

Rock Paper Shotgun recently spoke with Bloober Team’s lead producer, Maciej Głomb. During their conversation, Maciej was asked what we could see from the team after the launch of Silent Hill 2. While we don’t have a direct answer as to what will be next, the team seems interested in keeping up with some of the inspirations behind their latest release.

Back in the day when we were working on the first Layers Of Fear, we were much more counting on jump scares and things that appear in a very sudden way. And I think that with every game afterward and especially right now, with Silent Hill 2, we went much more in the direction of just creating this tense atmosphere – again, [this sense of] the unknown, you’re not sure what’s going to happen next. If you can actually deliver on this feeling, you don’t actually need to ‘make’ something happen because this is already working on players, they’re having that experience. – Maciej Głomb

It seems that future projects from Bloober Team will retain that third-person view setup. But beyond that, we might not see the sudden jump scares the Bloober Team once relied on. There are a ton of horror games that rely on giving you that sudden jolt as you progress through the campaign. However, with the Silent Hill franchise, we got something different. Instead, there is more of a dread of the unknown. The mix between the dreary location and the fear of what might happen next can keep players on the edge of their seats the entire time.

But we’ll have to wait a little while longer before we find out what is next from the studio. Silent Hill 2 is set to launch on October 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. However, the first review for the game already suggests Konami has a winner.
