In recent days, EA has been giving away a free copy of Battlefield 3 with each preorder of Mass Effect 3—no doubt in an attempt to spur the game's sales.
Regardless of whether that's been successful, the marketing deal has met with heavy criticism from the press, as it shows (to an extent) the publisher's lack of faith in Mass Effect 3's ability to sell itself. At least that's how the criticism goes.
Effective today, EA has prematurely ended the promotion, which was expected to run until the release of Mass Effect 3.
Effective immediately, the Mass Effect 3 promotion that included a bonus copy of Battlefield 3 is ending. All customers who pre-ordered Mass Effect 3 during the promotion until now will receive a code to download their bonus copy of Battlefield 3 via email by March 8th. Going forward, customers who pre-order Mass Effect 3 from Origin will still receive the M55 Argus Assault Rifle and Origin Exclusive AT12 Raider Shotgun.
Mass Effect 3 is set for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 6, 2012. PC buyers should keep in mind that they will have to install Origin along with the game.
