Fighting game fans are not too surprised when crossovers are unveiled. There are plenty of guest fighters in fighting games, which adds to the fun. However, this one for Tekken would have been a bit of an unusual appearance for a fighting game roster. Apparently, Tekken fans would have seen Colonel Sanders himself grace the franchise if the series director could make it happen.
Recently, The Gamer had the chance to speak with Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada. During their conversation, it was revealed that the series director was keen on bringing out a Colonel Sanders guest fighter, but they couldn’t make it happen. Apparently, the series director went as far as he could take the idea before getting shot down.
It’s noted that Harada went and took the idea to Kentucky Fried Chicken in hopes of getting the approval to bring the character into the game. However, they stated that KFC wasn’t very open to the idea presented. That said, the series director for Tekken did note that we had since seen Colonel Sanders appear in a dating game simulator. Perhaps, it was the idea of Colonel Sanders fighting someone was what turned KFC away from the idea.
[Harada] went to Kentucky Fried Chicken and tried to get Colonel Sanders. […] they weren’t very open to the idea. [Colonel Sanders] appeared in games after that. So maybe it was just him fighting against someone [that] was posing a problem for them. But it just goes to show how difficult these types of discussions are. – The Gamer
