Remedy has finally clarified the situation with Alan Wake 2 on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Remedy’s head of communications Thomas Puha made this statement on Twitter:
“With a game like Alan Wake 2, where the mood and environmental story-telling are essential, bringing ray tracing to the game as a brand new feature adds another layer of immersion.
We have also used the additional power of PS5 Pro to improve the visuals and effects in the 60fps Performance mode, where we have upped the output resolution to 4K (base PS5 at 1440p), making the experience look even better than before.”
Earlier this month, Puha was forced to comment when Digital Foundry made an analysis of the PlayStation 5 Pro trailer, and found that Alan Wake 2 footage was running at 864P at best. At the time, he promised that they would be showing more of the game later, and that’s what we have now.
But at the same time, he also stated that Remedy prioritized image quality over resolution. As it turns out, that statement was about what Remedy would be doing to improve the game, and hereby demonstrating that their game would be worth playing again on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
We are sure this statement will placate fans arguing about the merits of the console. But how much will that help Remedy or Sony? Remedy has publicly admitted that even as Alan Wake 2 is a creative peak for the company, it has yet to turn in a profit. In other words, it hasn’t even made back its budget, some of which came from Epic Games.
So if Alan Wake 2 isn’t really a console seller, what good will it do for the PlayStation 5 Pro? While there will of course be other games that will be enhanced for the console, there is still a lot of skepticism and debate among fans online if the mid generation upgrade is really worth the investment.
Now, we already know a lot of gamers are priced out of this upgrade. We presumably expect the more high income gamers who can afford the PlayStation 5 Pro to come out for it. Kutaragi did not tell fans to get a second job to get it this time.
But even those gamers were questioning if this upgrade is worth the money for them. With a Switch 2 looming, rumored to border the PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series S in power, and other rumors of Microsoft launching their next generation early in 2026, is this purchase going to burn them in the end? Sony hast to building the case for those consumers who can afford the PlayStation 5 Pro that it’s a must have upgrade.
