Within the world of The Division, you may have overlooked one aspect that holds a ton of meaning, the graffiti. Ubisoft published a brand new YouTube video to showcase the work behind documenting graffiti in real world areas and transcribing some of the meaning behind the artwork by placing it in their game.
Amr Din is the center focus of attention within the latest Ubisoft developer video. It’s noted that Amr is an authenticity coordinator of visual identity at reflections, essentially, its Amr’s job to make sure that The Division had authentic and realistic visuals, more specifically, within the graffiti sprayed against the ruins of New York City.
According to Amr Din, graffiti is much more than just an individual leaving his tag on a new or ruined building. These are artists leaving a message of their life, something that Amr enjoys viewing and documenting.
“You get to know people without having to experience directly their life. It changes your world view.”
Within the video Amr also notes that many developers don’t have the chance to come first hand and experience these wonderful works of art. For Ubisoft, they were able to document and have first-hand knowledge before they began to paint the troubled world for The Division video game.
While some images may not look like much to the untrained eye, Amr Din gives some insights as to what these tags represent, which for the most part is hope and despair.
“You have this society that was on top of the world suddenly crumbled, and now it’s not about killing people or being the best, it’s about helping the people around you and helping society.”
Currently, Tom Clancy’s The Division is available right now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
