Remedy has officially commented on claims that Alan Wake 2 runs at 864p 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 Pro.
We just reported on Digital Foundry’s analysis of the PlayStation 5 Pro trailer. While they made this claim on an analysis of the game playing on the announcement video for the console, they did not get to test the console itself.
So it’s important to remember that Digital Foundry did not make a definitive assessment of how well Alan Wake 2 will perform on the newer console. They are limited on what they can determine because Sony did not give them that access.
Unfortunately, gamers have gone a bit overboard in sharing this information. While it’s understandable that gamers have strong feelings about the console, it has led to them jumping to conclusions that Digital Foundry themselves did not make. And perhaps there are gamers who can be more rational about this, but they ‘feel’ that this analysis proves what they already suspect to be true.
So, in light of how this has become an unnecessarily big issue, Remedy themselves are now chiming in. Thomas Puha, the studio’s Head of Communications, went onto Resetera with this statement:
“I had to check Era during weekend Lol. Remedy’s games and resolution discussion pops up every once in a while. Image quality matters more than resolution, not that I’m confirming anything.
We’ll drop some details on the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 in the coming weeks with some assets too. I think the version will be a pleasant surprise, but hard to tell these days.”
This may not necessarily address everyone’s questions, but we hope that gamers will calm down, at least for a few days. As we noted in our prior report, it is possible that Sony hasn’t given Digital Foundry and other games press more access and shared more information because the development work that’s being done to optimize games on the upcoming system is still not done.
And that may itself be a notable consideration if you were a consumer in the market for this product. While we can easily assume the PlayStation whales will rush to secure their own units, you may be in a position where you can afford to buy this console, but you are not sure if you want to. While we cannot guarantee this, it would be reasonable to assume that some games will be made to run even better on the PlayStation 5 Pro a few months after the console launches.
With that in mind, there would be nothing wrong with saving your money for now, to see if it turns out to be as good – or as bad – as everyone says it is. Even after its official announcement, we don’t have all the answers about this console, and as a consumer, that should give you pause. Well, pausing on the purchase screen is what we mean here.
