You would think after yesterday’s announcement that Concord players would be at their saddest point right now. But it seems they have found themselves a new meta that sounds so much fun that it might be worth logging in to try it.
As reported by PlayStation Universe, Concord players are now working on the best meta strategy to get as much experience as possible. Everyone in the lobbies is now thinking of the same thing: they all want to get the Platinum trophy before Concord’s servers are shut off. And even though Firewalk said they had plans to bring the game back in the future, their players are reasonable in acting as if this will be their last chance to play.
So what’s the deal with Concord’s Platinum trophy? Well, to earn it, you don’t need to reach any particular killstreak or other metric or goal that requires skillful play. Instead, you need to reach Reputation level 100, and to get there, you have to earn thousands of experience, at a rapid pace.
And so, as hilarious as it sounds, Concord players have essentially colluded with each other, in a meta that Firewalk’s developers didn’t plan for. Everyone in the game is now joining teams, entering Rivalry mode, with one team is designated to jump off of the game map.
Concord players figured out that throwing games like this is the fastest way that everyone can earn experience. While the winning team earns more experience in each round of Rivalry, the loser team also makes some of that experience by just playing.
But really, what makes this situation special is the collusion. Since everyone who is still on those servers are on the same page, they are all rushing to finish those Rivalry matches as quickly as possible. Is everyone going to get their Platinum trophies from this? It certainly looks like they’re all trying their best to help each other to get there.
It certainly isn’t the first time that the players have created a meta to ‘beat’ the developers at their own game (pun intended). But given the circumstances, there is something heartening with the notion that something that was this disastrous of a fiasco for the creators could provide this strange joy to the people enjoying it. It’s like the video game version of bringing spoons to screenings of The Room. And those Platinum trophies will stand as a strange source of pride for those brave Concord players, who absolutely won’t be forming an online hipster subculture around this game someday.
