A newly released trailer for Far Cry 3-which happens to be more of a teaser than an actual trailer (it's a whole lot of CGI)—features a lot of shouting and a surprise ending… with dubstep. There, I ruined the surprise.
The trailer begins with a camcorder recording of a couple of guys and a girl who find themselves on an uncharted—but inhabited island. They have fun, they interact with the locals, and they eventually wind up in a bar where they take a few drinks and black out. The protagonist is woken up by his friend's screams only to see him die. The girl is nowhere to be found. Facing death, our hero manages to escape from the goons who killed his friends and makes his way across the jungle.
The teaser speaks to the recent reveal that the new game would be focusing on an intense personal storyline, with a psychology at the heart of its telling.
The dubstep music within the teaser is, however, quite distressing and a bit ill-fitting.
Far Cry 3 is expected to be released on September 7th for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.
