Konami is starting to get back into the swing of things with the video game industry. Several years went by when fans of franchises like Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid were waiting for their return. Now, we have both coming back into the limelight. However, when it comes to Metal Gear Solid, that vital role that Hideo Kojima stepped out of is still vacant for the most part—leaving most of us wondering who would step into his place.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is in the works at Konami, and it’s set to be a remake of the 2004 title, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This game installment was a massive hit for players and fans of the franchise. However, while fans are eager to get their hands on this game, there is still a lingering question about who will step into the role Hideo Kojima once resided in. Thanks to Rock Paper Shotgun, we got more insight into what’s happening behind the scenes at Konami.
Rock Paper Shotgun had the chance to speak with a producer from Konami, Noriaki Okamura. During their conversation, it was asked if Konami had found a key person who could fill the shoes of Hideo Kojima, and rather than being a single person, a whole team of developers are helping in that role.
So in terms of someone to sort of replace that creative director role, there isn’t really a single person that has taken over. But rather, we’ve created this new Metal Gear Solid team – we’ve got a great team full of young new creative minds, a very talented team that are currently working on this game together. – Noriaki Okamura
It looks like Konami was able to put together a team of young creative developers working hard to deliver this next release to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Still, it’s always best to have one voice to lead things rather than a mess of creative voices, and Konami knows this.
And within this team there are many people that we think in the future as well could definitely be people like that, who could create these new ideas, have these creative visions, and this is definitely a team that we would like to develop and grow into roles like that. But there isn’t a specific person that has taken over, necessarily, it’s much more of a team effort. – Noriaki Okamura
So it does seem like there are some potential individuals who could step up and lead Metal Gear Solid into a bright and successful future. Of course, that remains to be seen as we’ll have to wait for where this series progresses. Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima seems to be doing quite well with his own ventures, as we know he’s working on a couple of projects, including Death Stranding 2.
